Intruder-resistant door classes – what you should know?
Choosing the right exterior doors is not only a matter of aesthetics, but above all of security. At OkDoors, we know how important it is to protect your home and its residents, which is why we offer doors that meet European intruder-resistance standards.
Learn what burglary resistance classes are and what they mean in practice.
What are burglary resistance classes?
Intruder-resistant doors are classified according to the European standard EN 1627, which defines their resistance to forced entry attempts using various tools and techniques. The standard distinguishes six resistance classes – from RC1 to RC6 (Resistance Class). The higher the class, the greater the resistance to burglary. The classification is based on tests carried out according to established procedures, using specified tools and a defined duration of action.
Burglary resistance classes according to EN 1627:
RC1 - basic protection against attempts at physical break-in without the use of tools. Suitable mainly for rooms with low risk.
RC2 - resistance to break-in attempts using simple tools (e.g., a screwdriver, pliers). The minimum class recommended for entrance doors in houses and apartments.
RC3 - protection against more advanced tools (crowbar, hammer) and a longer forced-entry time. This is a clearly higher level of security, suitable for single-family homes, apartments, and commercial premises.
RC4 - high resistance to burglary using an axe, hammer, saw, chisel. Recommended for buildings with increased risk (e.g., companies, warehouses).
RC5 and RC6 - very high resistance to an attack using power tools. Used in facilities with the highest level of protection (e.g., financial institutions, laboratories).
